Originally from the down undercoat of the Asiatic goat (Capra hircus laniger) cashmere fibers now also come from 68 beeds of goat in 12 countries, which are classified as cashmere because of a fiber diameter of under 19 microns. Pashmina is made from the finest cashmere wool in the world. It is combed from the underside of the Himalaya Mountain Goat, which indigenous to the mountains of Central Asia.
